Crafty Gals Blog Group – January Challenge

Those of you with terrific memories will remember that I joined a new blog group back in November…the Crafty Gals.

In the group, we do one challenge every month, taking turns being hostess and coming up with the challenge idea. This month, I get to be hostess. And since the countdown is on to this baby’s arrival, I wanted to celebrate newness…of all types.

The challenge I came up with was to create a project that celebrated newness…New Year, new marriage, new job, new friend, etc. At the same time, I challenged my fellow crafters to take the opportunity to try out a new technique or template. It didn’t have to be fancy, just something you’ve never tried before.

I didn’t think I’ve have so much trouble with this challenge!! But, apparently my crafting brain is as frozen as the ground because I had a couple of false starts before I finally found something that worked for me.

Predictably, I did a baby card (you’ll probably see this theme repeat itself on my blog for the next while. It’s kind of on my mind!).

The technique I tried was the Direct to Paper technique in the resources section of SplitCoast Stampers. In this technique, you apply the ink to your paper directly to your ink pad to create a background. I used pink, blue, yellow and green to create the strip across the middle of the card. Then I decided to go off-roading with my ink pads and also distressed the yellow background a bit with both the pink and the blue.

Like it?

Okay, here’s the blog addresses for the rest of the Crafty Gals. Go check them out too…based on the blog group chatter, there’s going to be some great projects out there!!
